The goal was simple: gather as many youth together as possible, and spend the night in a temporary dwelling…a cardboard box. Raise awareness, while raising funds to help Family Promise of Warren County help the homeless.
And the goal was accomplished. Young people gathered in the parking lot of St. Mary’s School, and Church of the Assumptions front lawn in Hackettstown, NJ. They were invited to bring their own box (if possible), duct tape, a sleeping bag, a pillow, and a quiet game like cards – but no electronic devices.
Each participant was provided with a simple meal for dinner, much like what would be served at a soup kitchen; and a simple breakfast in the morning. And they were warned: “if it rains, just as the homeless do, we will cope with the weather that day.” Only if in case of a safety risk would they be moved indoors.
As it turned out, the weather cooperated, awareness and funds were raised, and families were helped. Our deepest thanks to all who made it happen! (Click below to watch slideshow)
