2 Cardboard Box City Events Planned

Could you give up your bed tonight.....if doing so could change a life?

This year, thanks to Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hackettstown and the United Presbyterian Church of Belvidere, there will be two great opportunities to help educate our communities about homelessness in our own backyard, and you're invited join in.

Homelessness is not as obvious in a rural county like Warren, but every night many local children and their families have no place to call home. Our goal at Family Promise of Warren County is to help homeless families regain their independence. We also believe in educating our community about why this goal is so important.

Cardboard Box City events are held nationally to help with education and social awareness. The events also help raise funds, in addition to being a fun time for youth groups and organizations. Participants spend the night sleeping in cardboard boxes to learn firsthand the harsh realities of life without a solid roof overhead.

Here in Warren County, Lisa Valentino, the Youth Minister at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hackettstown, has been organizing Box City events at their location in Hackettstown for several years now. It has become an annual event for them, always benefiting our Family Promise. This year's event is scheduled for Saturday May 11th - Sunday, May 12th.

In addition to the Box City in Hackettstown, this year we are fortunate to have Ann and Whitney Rogers and the folks at the United Presbyterian Church of Belvidere organizing a Box City event on Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st for the Belvidere area. That event will be held at the Courthouse Square in Belvidere, and proceeds will also benefit Family Promise.

You are invited to both of these great events!
